Rachel Collier-Wilson of Creative With Line is an artist with a passion for drawing and printmaking, particularly in response to the natural world. Norwich Pride Art Champion and Norwich Queer Art Curator, Rachel lives in Norwich.

I loved attending Norwich Pride in 2019, the first Pride after moving here with my wife and daughter in 2018. It was exciting and powerful to be at a Pride in my city of choice. It was also an acknowledgment of the ongoing struggles that LGBTQIA+ people face. For me, it was so good to be around so many Queers, especially to see young people happy within themselves in this safer environment where our otherness was centered and celebrated.

Eaton Park; just one of Norwich’s splendid Victorian parks near you. It is well used by various groups of people of all ages. The park is ideal for a walk with a dog, a coffee and a conversation or just to go out to look for herons.

The Hippodrome Circus in Great Yarmouth. It is a permanent circus built in 1903 and which continues to operate. I love Art Nouveau architecture. A highlight for me is the part of the show where the circus floor sinks into a swimming pool and the water ballet begins. Amazing human feats and women in swimsuits. To like.

The Catherine Wheel, an LGBTQIA+ pub in Norwich, features beer, queer and drag acts. Bernice has been providing safer spaces for queer people for about three decades. Legend!

place to eat

So many choices but my people, The York and Arms not thanked, both make a great Sunday roast. I also like Shiki in Tombland because the food is authentic and amazing. We usually eat there to celebrate our daughter’s birthday as she is a sushi buff.

We often go to Cart Gap as there is usually room with easy parking. The coast and seaside was one of my main motivations for moving to Norfolk. I love how the sea lifts my spirits, it’s so good for my mental health.

Norwich Art Supplies has a great selection and always has what I need for my art business.

There are so many creatives here. That was another reason I moved to Norwich, to be part of a community of artists and creators. I love Selina Grazia (@Skullpturas) Safi Butler-Ward (@safi_butler_art) and there’s also me (@creativewithline – apologies for the shameless self-promotion!).

I love a circuit around UEA wide, whatever the weather. There is always something different to see, plus sculptures.

*Rachel’s work can be seen at Raveningham Sculpture Trail until September 4.
