Playhouse on Park will once again welcome audiences to the West Hartford Theater for Season 13, starting in September.


Theater at to park, managed under the direction of Theater Theater Group, Inc., is West Hartford’s own renowned professional theater, and the 2021-2022 productions will mark the organization’s 13th Main Stage season.

Theater at to park offers a wide range of stimulating, inspiring and utterly enjoyable productions that leave the audience often smiling, sometimes in tears and always talking about what they have just experienced. PTG, Inc. produces award-winning plays throughout the year, including a Main Stage series of plays and musicals; a theater series for young audiences; comedy evenings; Dance; music; improvisation; an extensive educational program, and more.

My partners and co-artistic directors Sean Harris and Darlene Zoller filled our 13th season with productions that will take you around the world! We will travel to Afghanistan, England, Las Vegas, time to the Roman Empire, the 1800s and 1930s, while entertaining you with stories of hope. Our customers have been incredibly supportive throughout the pandemic, and we absolutely wouldn’t be here today without them. “

The 2021-22 season will open with TWO JEWS WALK INTO A WAR… by Seth Rozin. Ishaq and Zeblyan are the last remaining Jews in Afghanistan. They share the only remaining synagogue that was not destroyed by the Taliban. They share the mission of repopulating the Jewish community in Kabul. But they also hate each other. Can this strange Middle Eastern couple engage in an incredible leap of faith to keep the diaspora alive without killing each other? A modern vaudeville full of schtick, heartache and survival. TWO JEWS ENTERS A WAR from September 22 to October 8, 2021.

From December 1 to 19, 2021, MISS BENNET: CHRISTMAS AT PEMBERLEY by Lauren Gunderson and Margot Melcon. A sequel to Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice that takes place two years after the novel ends, MISS BENNET continues the story, but this time with the bookish half-sister Mary as the unlikely heroine. Mary tires of her role as a devoted younger sister in the face of her siblings’ romantic escapades. When the family reunites for Christmas in Pemberley, an unexpected guest arouses in Mary hopes of independence, intellectual union, and perhaps even love.

FIVE GUYS NAMED MOE (book by Clarke Peters, with music and lyrics by Louis Jordan) is the third show by Theater at to park13th season of the main stage. An exuberant tribute to the music of rhythm and blues pioneer and alto saxophonist, Louis Jordan, Five Guys Named Moe is an international sensation. Originally produced in London’s West End by legendary Cameron Mackintosh, this exhilarating and comprehensive theatrical experience moved to Broadway in 1992 and was nominated for two Tony Awards. From January 26 to February 26. 27, 2022.

Then comes the DIVAS: DOUBLE OR NOTHING of stop / time dance theater. the stop / time dance theater is Theater at to parkthe resident dance company of, created, directed and choreographed by Darlene Zoller. DIVAS: DOUBLE OR NOTHING is an original show featuring 17 exceptional members of the company who will sing, lip-sync and dance in your heart while paying homage to all your favorites: Cher, Tina, Gloria, Shania, Dolly, Whitney and more with a mix of tap dancing, jazz, swing and funk. It will be a nonstop high energy production that will sure send you home with a smile on your face. DIVAS: DOUBLE OU RIEN will take place from March 16 to 27, 2022.

THE AGITATORS by Mat Smart is the next main stage production, and will run from May 25 to June 12, 2022. The Agitators tells the story of the enduring but tumultuous friendship of Susan B. Anthony and Frederick Douglass. Great allies? Yes. And sometimes great adversaries. The young abolitionists when they met in Rochester in the 1840s were full of hopes, dreams and a common goal. As they became the cultural icons we know today, their movements collided and their friendship was strained. It is the story of this forty-five year friendship – from its beginnings in Rochester, through a civil war and to the highest levels of government. They agitated the nation, they agitated each other, and in so doing, they helped shape the Constitution and the course of American history.

The 2021-22 main stage season will end with PIPPIN (book by Roger O. Hirson, with music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz. PIPPIN will run from July 6 to August 21, 2022. Heir to the Frankish throne, the young Prince Pippin is in search of the secret of true happiness and fulfillment. He seeks it in the glories of the battlefield, the temptations of the flesh and the intrigues of political power (after getting rid of his father, King Charlemagne the Grand)., Pippin finds that happiness does not lie in extraordinary efforts, but rather in the unusual moments that occur every day.Directed by Sean Harris and Darlene Zoller.

The first show in Theater at to parkThe Theater for Young Audiences series is THE AMAZING ADVENTURES OF DR. WONDERFUL (AND HIS DOG!) The public performances will take place from October 30 to November 30. 7, 2021. Find out about Literature Alive’s field trip program! It’s a science-mystery musical for young audiences! Fly through the solar system with Dr. Wonderful and his amazing adventure team made up of Newton (the dog), Ben (the human) and mum (the mum)! Girl-detective-noir meets science-geek-chic in this super cool astronomical musical theater event that will take you through the universe with fun, flair and science. Written by Lauren Gunderson (Theaterof the critically acclaimed Season 10, THE REVOLUTIONISTS). Book and lyrics by Lauren Gunderson, with music by Brian Lowdermilk. Darlene Zoller will choreograph and conduct, under the musical direction of Melanie Guerin.

Next up in the Theater for Young Audiences series is the world premiere of DANDELION, adapted from Don Freeman’s children’s book. This musical tells the story of Dandelion. He’s a shy, clumsy lion, filled with angst in college. When invited to Jennifer Giraffe’s impromptu party, Dandelion decides to reinvent himself. He finally discovers that it is better to be yourself! In addition to the theme of staying true to who you are, the musical explores issues of bullying and social exclusion. Book and lyrics by Joan Ross Sorkin, with music by Mary Liz McNamara. DANDELION will take place from April 23 to May 1, 2022.
