ANDOVER, Kan. (KWCH) – For fans of R&B, funk and classic soul music, you can get your groove on this weekend.
After a two-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the ‘Grub and Groove Festival’ officially returns to the Federal Capitol Amphitheater in Andover on Saturday, August 20. This year’s lineup features classic and current artists including ConFunkShun, Rose Royce, The Dazz Band, Karyn White and Kevin Ross, as well as Ron Gutierrez, also known as “The Latin Luther”. Additionally, there will be a variety of food offerings, including barbecue and soul food, as well as other vendors.
Platform Promotions’ Chuck Byrd recalls the conversation he had with former Wichita Mayor Carl Brewer about introducing this type of entertainment to the Air Capitol when the festival kicked off in 2015.
“Wichita is considered a ‘B market’ in the entertainment industry, but it has so much to offer. What we wanted to do is instead of people from Wichita going to Oklahoma or Kansas City for entertainment, why not bring that entertainment to Wichita and then invite those towns to come not just for the festival Grub and Groove, but to see what else Wichita has to offer? That was our approach in 2015, and here we are six years later. What we set out to do, I think we accomplished because we have people from four different states coming to the event.
Although the amphitheater sustained damage from last April’s tornado, including the hospitality area, Byrd said organizers have adapted to the changes by bringing tents for hospitality and thanks the city. of Andover for keeping the event going.
“We are delighted to be able to return. Even with the pandemic and the tornado that passed through, we wondered if this was going to happen. Andover really took matters into their own hands and made sure events could still happen on site.
Tickets are still available online at GrubAndGrooveFestival.com, as well as at the amphitheater box office. Doors open at 3 p.m., show starts at 5 p.m.
