Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze said on Tuesday that the Cartu Foundation of Bidzina Ivanishvili, founder of the ruling Georgian Dream party and former Georgian prime minister, would fully cover the costs of the ongoing construction of Tbilisi Central Park in the Saburtalo district of the Georgian capital, with works covering an area of 36 hectares of the old Hippodrome.

The estimated cost of the project is approximately $20 million.

In his remarks during a regular meeting at the Tbilisi City Hall, Kaladze said that several changes have been made to the project, referring to the reduction of the parking area and others.

The parking area will be reduced, and in its place, on a territory of 5,937 square meters, green areas and a tennis court will be laid out. 245 parking spaces will remain in the park, instead of the 440 previously planned. The formal garden and the botanical garden on 28,232 square meters will no longer be included in the project and instead green spaces and picnic malls will be developed,” Kaladze said.

The new park will be located in a former hippodrome in the Saburtalo district of Tbilisi and will be able to accommodate around 11,000 visitors per day.

The Cartu Foundation had offered the territory to the Tbilisi City Hall in 2020 to build the region’s central park.
