Trois-Rivieres, QC – Stella Alpha (Lifetime royalty) scored in a frolic as he won the $10,000 final leg of the Breeders Trophy series for three-year-old trotters at 3R Racecourse on Friday.

It was the eighth win of the year for Stella Alpha, seven of those wins at H3R making her the winningest horse in the competition.

Driven by Pascal Berube, the H3R’s lead driver, for head coach Sylvain Tremblay, Stella Alpha slipped away in third place as the 6e The racing co-feature for the fillies began with Cleveland Moneyka (Stephane Brosseau) in the lead.

Once set up, Berube came right after the leader with Stella Alpha after a first quarter mile of 29.2 and took command. The filly then opened up the field by cutting the mile in half in :59.4 and three quarters in 1:29.1.

HP Felicity (Robert Shepherd) came first into the final corner but the effort was wasted as Stella Alpha raced home to win by four and a half lengths in 1:58.3. HP Felicity finished second with La Bromontoise (Jérôme Lombart) third.

Owned and bred by Tremblay’s Alpha stable of Metabetchouan, Stella Alpha paid $3.20 to win as a betting favorite.

REPLAY STELLA ALPHA

An even bigger game was scored by Royalty Beer (Lifetime royalty) and rider Kevin Maguire in the $10,000 Breeders Trophy Series colt division.

The no-bet run due to just four starters saw Royalty Beer immediately part the field as he cut fractions of :29.1, :58.3 and 1:28.2 before heading away into the stretch to win by nine and a half lengths in 1:58.4. Sammy Justice (Pascal Berube) finished second with Cleveland Massimo (Robert Shepherd) third.

It was a lifetime mark and the third win this year for Royalty Beer. He is trained by Jean-François Maguire and was bred and is co-owned by Écurie Maguire and Jean-François Maguire de Sainte-Marie.

Stella Alpha and Royalty Beer will now headline their respective $65,000 Breeders Trophy Series Finals at H3R on Sunday, September 11.

Track notes: Four drivers all had one-two finishes on Friday. They were Stéphane Brosseau, Pascal Bérubé, Jonathan Lachance and Robert Shepherd. Denitza Petrova was the only coach to score a brace. Live racing resumes on Sunday (August 21) at H3R with the third and final preliminary leg of the Breeders Trophy series for three-year-old fillies and colts. Featured is undefeated filly Majo Sport Bella while the colts are headlined by returning winners Aladdin, Titanium Alpha and Jack Panic.
