After months of planning and building, Disney KiteTails has finally premiered at Disney’s Animal Kingdom’s Discovery River Amphitheater! The show has two versions, one featuring characters from “The Jungle Book” and another featuring characters from “The Lion King”. During this preview, we would see “The Jungle Book” in progress.

When we entered we were told that the central entrance to the amphitheater is for Club 33 members only and the main entrance is on the left as you enter near DinoLand USA through Theater in the Wild.

We were allowed in 15 minutes before the show time at 11am, although we were allowed to queue half an hour before that in front of the theater.

Make sure you get there early, as the pre-show is part of the fun, and at 20 minutes, it’s twice as long as the actual show.

As guests begin to take their seats, a team of performers set up on jet skis and boats, making their way to their starting points.

With an arrangement of “Kiss the Girl”, Sebastian and Flounder themed kites from The little Mermaid fly away in front of the crowd.

During the The world of Nemo before the show, wind catchers from Crush and Squirt encourage guests to join in the performance.

During this part, the balloon parts of the larger kites start to be inflated.

Children are given their own turtle wind catches to wave as they walk through the crowds.

Right before the show starts, a live jam group floats on a pontoon boat through the amphitheater to excite the crowds as Mr. Ray’s kite flies.

And with a narration about the magic of the wind, Disney KiteTails takes flight.

There are two versions of the show, one with the theme The jungle Book and another theme The Lion King. (The pre-shows are the same for both productions.) Today we’re going to look at The jungle Book version.

The show kicks off with performers wearing tree-themed wind catchers, which lead to “The Bare Necessities”, as a Baloo kite flies chasing a kite with lots of prickly pears!

Once they are done, the kites are grounded in a blocked section of the amphitheater (indicated by the green canvas in front). At the show we attended, the Baloo kite missed its target and accidentally landed on some Cast Members.

Next, “Colonel Haithi’s March” takes over as a team of elephant hunters marches over the staging area, while other elephant-themed kites fly overhead.
