(MILLBURN, NJ) — paper mill playhouse announced its 2022-2023 season, including a gripping murder mystery, a Disney hero of mythical proportions, Rodgers and Hammerstein’s beloved finale musical, the Tony-nominated story of two Latin music icons and the Pulitzer Prize-winning musical that defined a generation.

The story of Emilio and Gloria EstefanAn inspiring true story about realizing the American dream (October 7 – November 6, 2022) This exhilarating production directed by Alex Sanchez (Giant and PMPs West Side Story and The beauty and the Beast), under the musical direction of Andrew David Sotomayor (Tootsies and PPM An enchanted evening), follows the lives of pop superstars Emilio and Gloria Estefan. Emilio and Gloria, both Cuban immigrants in Miami, fall in love, struggle to overcome family obstacles, and work tirelessly to bring their Latin sound to mainstream America. With hits such as “Rhythm Is Gonna Get You”, “Conga” and “1-2-3”, On your feet! is an exuberant and joyous celebration that overflows with heart.

Celebrate the holidays with the catchy melodies of The sound of music, including beloved gems such as “My Favorite Things”, “Edelweiss” and “Climb Ev’ry Mountain”. Directed by Paper Mill Production Art Director Mark S. Hoebee, Rodgers and Hammerstein’s latest musical evokes an Austria full of hills, singing nuns and a tender love story, in the shadow of the Second World War. Disney’s HerculesA legendary musical adventure (February 9 – March 12, 2023). It’s a tremendous stroke of luck! The Disney-inspired animated film is now a legendary new musical adventure. Hercules is the divinely entertaining story of a hero loyal to Zeus on a quest to find out who he is and where he belongs. Is love also a possibility? Oh, Hades, yes! Alan Menken and David Zippel’s stunning score features all the hits you love from the movie, including the Oscar-nominated song “Go the Distance,” as well as “Zero to Hero” and “I Won’t Say (I’ m in Love)”, as well as new songs written for the stage. The show features a new book by Kwame Kwei-Armah (Artistic Director of London’s Young Vic) and Tony Award winner Robert Horn (Tootsie), and directed by Obie Award winner Lear deBessonet. With a train full of suspects and an alibi for each, it’s the perfect mystery for Detective Hercule Poirot, isn’t it? Adapted from Agatha Christie’s masterpiece by two-time Tony Award-nominated playwright Ken Ludwig (lend me a tenor, Crazy of you), Agatha Christie Murder on the Orient Express is a fun and fast ride. Director Casey Hushion (Paper Mill’s Hint and happy holidays) takes the helm.

Lease An iconic musical about falling in love, finding your voice and living today (May 31 – June 25, 2023). Loosely based on Puccini The Bohemiaby Jonathan Larson Lease follows a year in the life of a group of poor young artists and musicians struggling to survive and create on New York’s Lower East Side in the shadow of HIV/AIDS. Winner of the Tony Award for Best Musical and the Pulitzer Prize for Drama, Lease has become a pop-cultural phenomenon with rock songs and a story that resonates with audiences of all ages. Directed by Zi Alikhan (hamilton, resident director).
