LAGUNA BEACH, CA —Ann E. Wareham is stepping down as artistic director of Laguna Playhouse, the playgroup announced Friday. She will be staying until the end of this calendar year to help with the transition.

Wareham spoke about her experience with the gambling den and what it meant to her.

“It has been a tremendous honor to be able to guide the Laguna Playhouse over the past decade and to serve the extraordinary artistic community of Laguna Beach,” she said. “It is such a vibrant and truly special place and I will be eternally grateful for this opportunity.”

Board chairman Glenn Gray discussed her upcoming departure and what she has meant for the playhouse.

“Over the past 11 years, Annie has been instrumental in the artistic growth and vision of the Playhouse,” said Gray. “The staff, team, Playhouse donors and the Board of Directors join me in wishing Ann nothing but the best as she sets out on her next trip.”

The Laguna Playhouse has featured many talented performers on stage over its long history including Ed Asner, Leslie Caron, Hershey Felder, Harrison Ford, Melanie Griffith, Val Kilmer, Gregory Harrison, Dan Lauria, Hal Linden, Wendie Malick, Rita Rudner, Charles Shaughnessy, French Stewart, Loretta Swit and Bette Davis.
