ALTON — Next week, the Liberty Bank Alton Amphitheater plans to announce a national act slated for this summer.

Jordan Atkins, vice chairman of the Alton Amphitheater commission, said he was excited for the year ahead with the summer program nearing completion.

“Hopefully with our fingers crossed we try to get one more national act,” Atkins said. “We are working towards two national acts – if not this year, then next year.”

With reduced COVID-19 restrictions, Atkins is confident this year’s entertainment at the amphitheater will have a great turnout.

“Maybe better than Nelly’s (2019) concert,” he said.

Confirmed for the amphitheater this summer is the 50th anniversary concert of the Encounter Youth Choir. The event is scheduled from 5-7 p.m. on Sunday, June 5.

The following week sees the St. Louis Mega Car Show from noon to 7 p.m. on Saturday, June 11, at the amphitheater.

Also on the program, Fireworks On The Mississippi on July 3; the Alton Food Truck Festival on August 27; the Alton Jazz and Wine Festival on September 3; the Alton Expo 2022 from September 8 to 11; and the Mississippi Earthtones Festival on September 17.
