Cobb was on tour for the release of his fourth album, “Keep Them on They Toes,” in 2020, with Brad Cook in Durham, North Carolina. Nikki Lane performed vocals, piano, violin and tuba on the album on the track “Soap Box,” which was co-written by Cobb’s father, Patrick. The two performed the song together on the Friday night show.

MoonFrog Media photographer Tom Dorgan said Lane praised Combs’ courage for taking over the solo scene night after night. Her nerves, she said, took hold when she was stripped naked. Only a few songs, the same group that supported Cobb joined Lane on stage.

The singer-songwriters all included stories about their process and who they worked with, according to Dorgan. The three got together at the end of the night to play through an encore, “You and Me Go Fishing in the Dark,” a cover of a song by the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band.
