It took the camera at the finish line to declare Dreydl Hanover ($ 2.90) the winner by a nose over Mickeymaksomespeed at Sunday’s Preferred Handicap Pace (June 27) at 3R Racecourse.

Driver Samuel Fillion kicked off the show in the co-feature by sending Dreydl Hanover in the lead, and they suspended Littlebitaswagger (Francis Picard) from a quick opening quarterback: 26.4. After allowing Littlebitaswagger to take the lead, Fillion moved a quarterback with Dreydl Hanover to regain the lead. After halftime in: 56.3, Windsun Cheyenne and driver Pascal Bérubé took the lead and covered Mickeymaksomespeed and driver Jonathan Lachance live.

After three quarters in 1: 26.4, Lachance sent Mickeymaksomespeed three times wide in the last corner and gained ground in the home stretch. As it looked like Mickeymaksomespeed was going to overtake Dreydl Hanover, Fillion found just enough speed to get Dreydl Hanover to hang on to the nose in 1: 56.4. Littlebitaswagger was third.

Sent off as the 2-5 favorite, it was Dreydl Hanover’s fourth win of the season. The 11 year old gelding by Cams Card Shark is trained by Francis Richard for owner François Martin.

Sophies Cam ($ 5.60) was given a perfect workout by Stéphane Brosseau in the Preferred Handicap Pace for mares.

Starting alert from post four, Brosseau used Sophies Cam to stretch Shemaksmefelunreal (Marie Claude Auger) to the opening quarter mile in: 27.3. As the field turned to the half mile, Francis Picard came in first with the 7-5 favorite Fancy Girl, and they started after Shemaksmefelunreal at the half in: 58.1. Meanwhile, Sophies Cam enjoyed the two-hole trip and Sieras Rose (Samuel Fillion) followed Fancy Girl in second. They ran in that direction up to three quarters in 1:28.

Then, at the start of the stretch, Fancy Girl and Shemaksmefelunreal both started to tire and exhaust themselves, allowing Brosseau to send Sophies Cam up the ramp to win by three-quarters length in 1: 58.3. Shemaksmefelunreal finished second with YC Easy (Jonathan Lachance) third.

It was the second win this season for Sophies Cam. Yankee Cam’s seven year old mare is owned and trained by Yvanhoe Landry.

Three-year-old trotting colt Hall Win ($ 5.70) showed he was ready for the Breeders Trophy Series debut at H3R in July as Angus Hall’s son claimed his third straight victory this year.

Kevin Maguire trains and drives Hall Win, and his stable Maguire owns and breeds the colt. They came first from fourth on the back stretch and blew through the field, winning easily by 4-1 / 2 lengths in a best time of 1: 59.3.

Jonathan Lachance scored twice behind the wheel that day.
