DECATUR, GA– DeKalb Recreation, Parks and Cultural Affairs will host the grand opening of the Rainbow Park Amphitheater on Saturday May 14, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., at Rainbow Park, 1831 Rainbow Park, Decatur GA.
The historic event will feature award-winning musician Jennifer Holliday as well as live music from other artists and food vendors. Customers should pick up free tickets at the Porter Sandford III Performing Arts Center box office beginning May 9, Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tickets will be available on a first-come, first-served basis with a maximum of two per customer.
“We are thrilled to add Jennifer Holliday to the lineup for this show and excited to open for the summer season. Park staff have worked diligently to complete the amphitheater and are beyond thrilled to see a variety of talented performers gracing the stage,” said Chuck Ellis, DeKalb Parks Manager.
The cost to build the project was $1.7 million and funds were allocated by the DeKalb Department of Community Development, Commissioner Larry Johnson, Commissioner Lorraine Cochran-Johnson, and the 2001 and 2006 Park Bond The amphitheater seats 1,000 spectators and will provide the community with outdoor concerts and movies at park events.
“I am grateful to everyone who has helped bring this vision to life and I am confident that the amphitheater will be an exciting place for the community,” said Cynthia Benefield, Acting Director of the Cultural Affairs Division.
The amphitheater will be a positive social space for many patrons in the heart of DeKalb County and for visitors from everywhere. This venue will play an important role in the artistic culture and development of the county, bringing live performances to the community.
Jennifer Holliday is a Houston, Texas native and a Grammy-winning musician and Broadway actress with various accolades and accomplishments.
