STEPS and Strictly Come Dancing star Faye Tozer leads the cast of the fairy godmother of all of this year’s pantomimes, Cinderella, at Darlington Racecourse.

The cast are eager to bring some magic to Darlington after last year’s panto was canceled due to the pandemic.

Singer and actress Ms. Tozer said, “Everyone needs a little sparkle in their lives after such a miserable year with the pandemic, so I can’t wait.

“The further north you go, the louder the crowd, so it should be a fabulous race. We like to interact with the public and be heckled.

“This fairy godmother will be sassy and not behave well!”

Buttons is played by comedian and Edinburgh Fringe regular Patrick Monahan, who has appeared on The One Show, BBC Asian Network and Loose Women.

He said, “Panto is great because it’s not just children’s entertainment, adults love it too.

“It can be tiring, but I would love to spend a month being exhausted by another lockdown any day!

“The people of Darlo are really down to earth and can laugh at themselves and having local knowledge makes all the difference with panto.

“You want the kids to think Cinderella really lives in Darlo!” ”

Cinderella will be played by Tanisha Butterfield, who is currently in third year of drama school and making her professional debut at Darlington Racecourse.

Tanisha said: “I can’t wait. Who doesn’t love Cinderella? My mom and sister will be coming to the show which makes me so happy.

“Panto has a way of bringing people together and after such a horrific time as we’ve been through with the pandemic, it’s great to know that the theater could outlive Covid.”

The actors agreed that so much work is spent on the panto behind the scenes.

Faye said: “It’s really a team effort, everyone involved is also working hard to put on a good show.”

The cast also includes Pete Peverley and Phil Corbitt as the Ugly Sisters.
Cinderella takes place at Darlington Racecourse from Friday December 6 through Friday December 31.
