(CBS Detroit)– No more parking. The area just outside the Detroit Music Hall has been transformed into an outdoor amphitheater just in time for the summer concert series.
After a two-week installation, the crew finished Friday in a brand new space in the heart of downtown Detroit.
“It’s more Joni Mitchell’s song. We took the parking lot and turned it into a garden, ”said Vinnie Paul, President and Artistic Director of Music Hall Center.
Paul says the idea of turning their parking lot into a beautiful entertainment space was first born out of a pandemic.
“We really wanted to bring color and vibrancy to the city, but it was also a reaction to Covid. Let’s move the program outside for a while, ”said Paul.
It’s gonna be all summer for a while, Paul hasn’t enjoyed the performances here yet, but he says.
“We have booked activities for the whole season, both outdoors and indoors. The 21st to 22nd seasons are full. “
The season kicks off on Friday May 21 to celebrate the 50th anniversary.e Anniversary of “What’s Going On” by Marvin Gaye. The event is private and serves as the music hall’s annual fundraising activity. Stay tuned for more performances.
“This will be the busiest music hall season of all time, with literally hundreds of performances,” said Paul.
