Four major bank agent unions have expressed concern over undue pressure from city officials to grant and disburse loans in Uttar Pradesh (UP). In a letter to UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the unions called for the necessary administrative measures to end unwarranted interference by civil servants at the local level.

The letter is signed by the Secretaries General of Confederation of Bank Agents of India (AIBOC), Bank Agents Association of India (AIBOA), Congress of Indian National Bank Agents (INBOC) ) and the National Bank Agents Organization (NOBO).

The letter says, “… in some places, officials of municipal corporations visit bank branches and create an atmosphere of bitter confrontation by their intervention in banking activities, especially related to the implementation of AtmaNirbhar Nidhi of the street vendor PM (PM SVANidhi) ”.

“In some cases, bank officials have been threatened with dire consequences, including disruption of banking services and administrative actions such as the filing of the First Information Report (FIR). The improper and authoritarian behavior of these officials has set a very bad precedent for interference in the professional interests of the Bank as well as of its employees, ”he said.

Further, the letter from the bank executives’ unions states: “It has created an atmosphere of terror which demoralizes and demotivates bank workers at all levels. the perpetrators of the atrocities would be held fully responsible. “

According to the unions, the nationalized banks are the means by which the union and the state governments deploy different programs. The implementation of these mechanisms and their performance are also examined and monitored by the supervisors of the internal hierarchy of the banks with the necessary seriousness, as well as by the various committees set up by the government. All banks have autonomy to decide on proposals received in a professional manner based on their merit, feasibility and economic viability, he added.

“Any interference in the process can only vitiate the atmosphere and jeopardize the interests of all stakeholders,” the letter read, adding: “Nationalized banks are autonomous bodies involved in nation-building activities to stimulate the economy and they should be treated with the respect due them by local officials for their professional conduct.

“We request your immediate attention to this matter and hope that your good offices will give peremptory instructions to the state administration in all lines to protect the integrity, autonomy and peace of banking institutions throughout the world. Status “, the letter sent by AIBOC, AIBOA, INBOC and NOBO to CM says Yogi Adityanath.
